Growing older can be fun, in that we gain more wisdom, more freedom, and wider horizons. But there is nothing fun about the way growing old affects our appearance.
In general, our bodies tend to age faster than our minds. This is why at the age of forty or so, we find ourselves looking at our reflections on the mirror, baffled at how much we've aged, how many wrinkles and age spots we have, how much our skin has sagged and weakened. In our minds, we feel no different that we did when we were teenagers!
With so many people becoming more aware about how important it is to preserve and protect the skin we were born with and slow the visible signs of skin aging for as long as possible, there has emerged a booming market of anti aging skin care products and treatments.
A popular method of removing wrinkles and other aging blemishes is to undergo a facial peel. This treatment involves removing the outer layer of skin, on which wrinkles and age spots can be found, to promote the renewal of fresh new skin underneath.
There are many techniques used to accomplish this, among them are chemical peels, microdermabrasion, and laser resurfacing. Different processes and instruments are used to achieve the results, but they all work much in the same way with similar advantages as well as disadvantages.
Advantages of Facial Peels:
1. You are assured of significant reduction of wrinkles and age spots after treatment.
2. Results are achieved quickly.
Disadvantages of Facial Peels:
1. There is a potential of pain involved with these treatments.
2. There is also a recovery period after the treatments.
3. Treatment can be expensive, particularly laser resurfacing.
4. The results achieved are also temporary, and will likely require regular treatments to maintain.
5. Chemical peels, microdermabrasion and laser resurfacing all come with the risk of irritation, permanent scarring and discoloration, and possible infection.
If you think, like I do, that the disadvantages of these kinds of treatments far outweigh the advantages, you can opt, instead to use anti aging skin creams.
Just make sure that you choose the right product. An effective anti aging skin cream should contain ingredients that target the primary causes of skin aging, like oxidation from free radicals, and the slow growth of collagen and elastin.
